What’s a memorable job you’ve had? Could be good or bad but it stands out for you.
Most of my jobs have been pretty standard. Nothing notable. So I’ll say my most memorable was a volunteer gig I had 20 years. I was a production up rigger at a youth circus. During the shows I worked above the arena and made sure equipment was safe, went in and came out at the right time and helped performers that entered from above.
Heck yeah that sounds amazing @InchByInch. I can imagine that was extremely memorable. For me my most memorable job was my enlistment in the United States Airforce. Unfortunately this is where my addiction got out of control, but it was a very interesting experience that I will not forget.
Gooood question! I was a snowboard instructor at Sunlight Mountain in Glenwood Springs, CO my first season in CO. The day we had our first training it DUMPED and we got about 3 feet of the lightest, most beautiful powder I have ever seen. They called us all at 5 am and if we could get there they opened the chairlifts for the staff. It was something Ill never experience again. Also loved teaching people to snowboard, especially at Sunlight, its an old timers resort, quiet but has the best tree runs and staff I experienced in my years in CO.
I got sober and worked in a Dunn Bros. Loved it. Quiet, people are generally kind and the whole atmosphere was just… peaceful. And I got to make some good coffee and listen to good music. Perfect sober job.
mmm I dont know! I had never experienced real powder before that day and at sunrise! First tracks on an empty mountain! AND! AND! I was sober Definitely a feeling I am happy to chase again.
I’m gonna go with “My Worst Job Ever”, since I’m a believer that finding out what you don’t like is just as important as finding out what brings you joy.
I had been working in a lumberyard during high school and into my first year of college, and I thought it might be cool to try a different gig and get a “Big Girl Job”, so I quit and got a job as a desk clerk at a hotel. OMG. What a nightmare. I was on the afternoon to early evening shift so all of the overbooking errors that had been made by the morning shift came to light as people came to check in. I wasn’t really prepared for the anger and verbal abuse that I got from the customers when I had to tell them “there’s been a mix up”…and the management didn’t really appreciate me indicating the mistakes that other folks were making. I made it about 2 months at that place before I was let go. It kinda stung getting fired as it was my first time, but it wasn’t a good fit at all. The experience however gave me so much respect for those that make a go of it in the hospitality industry.
After my Freshman year of college I worked in the games department at a Theme Park.
The pay was awful, wearing a uniform baking in the sun while getting harassed by middle schoolers day to day, listening to the same 15 songs on repeat, the list goes on.
But damn were the people amazing (and I didnt even drink at this point in my life). If you’ve ever seen the movie Adventureland it was honestly just like that. Just an absolute shit show in the best and most amusing way. By the end of the summer everyone was so close, and I am stil in contact with a ton of these people. Nobody really enjoyed the work but we all loved just shooting the shit and hanging out after our shifts.
@mazz , did you live in housing at the park? I think people that go through challenges together form a different kind of bond. Something about that shared experience of the shit show.
