Is it possible to try and quit a drug addiction by yourself w/o going to treatment?

I am struggling pretty bad right now. Today, I called about 10 or so treatment centers and not one would take Medicare, because I am on SSDI. I pay $250 a month for health insurance and they don’t take it? So incredibly frustrating. I really have to get my shit together. ~ g

Hey, @geminiBlu , did you try calling Wilder? The place I mentioned in a different post? I know a person that works there and they’re pretty sure Wilder would take your situation or they also have a sliding fee scale. You might be eligible for close to no charge or maybe no charge.

For reference Adult Mental Health & Recovery Services | Wilder Foundation

It is possible but it can be dangerous, depending on your choice of drug. I detoxed myself for about two weeks and have been clean ever since…I pray everything works out for you and also sending you strength.:100:

Have you tried Fairview or Unity Hospitals? People who use medicare have to go through a hospital program.

Here are the links.

Thanks @InchByInch, I give them a call tomorrow and see what they have and if they accept Medicare. It’s crazy that when you want help and they make you go through hoops to get there, but I will. Thanks again. ~ g

@Bounceback2024,Thanks. I’m going to call Fairview tomorrow. The one in Minneapolis. That’s closer for me to walk to, now that I don’t have a car anymore. I see they do take Medicare. I didn’t check them out this last Friday. Thanks for the tip. It is greatly appreciated. ~ g

Hi @Niizhaandeg, I tried before and after 2 days wasn’t successful, but maybe if I get into a program that has support, I’ll be able to do it. Thanks for the nice words. ~ g

I couldn’t find Wilder and Fairview said that they were full. I’m not sure what that means. They seemed hurried when I was talking to them. They said try back in a couple of weeks. How are you? ~ g

Help helps! Some people may be able to. But, the solution for a lot of folks I know is in community. Getting in the middle of a group of folks who show up for us, until we can show up for ourselves. You’re definitely not alone! Shoot me a SM if you want to chat. I’m Southside too.

Thanks for the advice. What’s a sm? I’m new to this. How do I do that? ~ g

I think the Wilder serves the Southeast Asian Communities. At least that’s what it says. Plus, it looks like it just mental health services.

Sorry, typo. DM=Direct Message.

@geminiBlu here is the phone number for Wilder 651-280-2310

Also, they do both mental health and SUD recovery. Not just for the SE asian community. I know a person that works at Wilder in their intake assessment team. I confirmed it isn’t just for a specific population.
