Nice good thinking and congratulations
When i am bored i usually look for something to keep me busy listening to music has been very helpful and impactful so many times… Try that
I forget how much I enjoy music, how it can truly change your mood! I remember before the internet… sitting in my room with my 61 disk player… writing down lyrics to songs. Or dubbing them from the radio, waiting all day to hear the song so I can record it on to my TAPE!
I am going to try and join some groups and try some new things… I’m just not sure what to do yet. I seem to find purpose in my identity by helping people or showing up for my job etc, so I think its time to find a hobby. I think I might get a puzzle board and a puzzle and when I am done, maybe try gluing it together and putting it up on a wall or something.
Does anyone have any crafty things they do when they are bored? I’m tired of doom scrolling…
I think my biggest set back is planning it because I am afraid that when it is time to attend the new activity I won’t want to go and bail. Ugh… that is a big block. But I can TRY!
Well unfortunately I don’t have a good answer, but I think we waste a lot of time on our devices and that prevents us from taking a hobby or another activity.
I am starting with small steps forcing myself to put down the phone, tablet, computer or TV for 1 hour a day (during free time / off work) and during that hour find something else to do that doesn’t involve electronics. It can be anything even cleaning, organizing, go for a walk, try a new recipe, etc. and as you can, increase the time… Who know I may find something I like and am good at…
So I am going to give it a try…
When feeling sober and bored, i consider exploring solo activities like reading, journaling, drawing, or exercise to keep myself engaged. I also reflect on past interests, explore online communities like this, or visit local libraries and bookstores to discover new passions.
I call my mom see how she is doing
Musicals or movies helps me
Im also gonna bump this. @Valor9 you check out any of those videos?
@Bfw whats your favorite board game? Or any recommendations? I play a lot of Ticket to Ride, Cribbage and Settlers of Catan

I know for myself, I tend to go online, not for Social Media, but looking up things and/or educating myself on topics or things that I have not alot of knowledge in. I guess, that’s good in a way. I also just got back into drawing. I went to college for Graphic Art & Design and worked for some years and then went into freelance art. But when my addiction became too real, I lost some of my drive to be an Artist and then ended up working at a hospital. So, it’s been about 25 years since I’ve touched a drawing pencil and/or ink. I was so excited, I went out and bought all of the supplies that I would need to just start out again. Well, after 2 months of almost having an anxiety attack looking at them, I sat down and started drawing. It’s been going well and I still having lost my ability to draw/sketch… I thought I’d have difficulty, but it’s been a very positive thing to bring back into my life. Watching TV is another way that I lose myself in, but recently I looked up exercises that you can do while your watching TV. I do some weight lifting for my upper body and arms and leg exercises as well, so I’m not just sitting there zoning out on real life crime dramas. But I hear ya on being bored as a trigger. It sure can be, so I try to keep myself busy. I isolate alot, which is not good either, but it’s better than getting high everyday. Let us know what you try. Keep an open mind. You got this. ~ g
