As a 9-year-old, I was innocent and carefree, until the day my cousin molested me. The trauma and shame I felt were overwhelming. To make matters worse, my cousin introduced me to masturbation and pornography, sparking a cycle of addiction that would haunt me for years.
But today, at 22, I stand as a survivor, free from the chains of addiction. It wasn’t easy, but I found solace in therapy, support groups, and my faith. I learned to forgive myself and my cousin, not for their sake, but for mine.
Ironically, the cousin who molested me died in a car crash. While it may seem like justice was served, I’ve come to realize that true justice is healing and finding peace. My cousin’s actions will always be a part of my story, but they no longer define me.
To anyone who has suffered similar trauma, I offer these words of advice:
You are not alone. Forgiveness is a process, and it’s okay to take your time. Seek help – therapy, support groups, and trusted loved ones can be lifelines.
- You are strong, capable, and deserving of healing and happiness.
Remember, your story is not defined by the darkness of your past. You have the power to create a brighter future, one that is filled with hope, resilience, and freedom.
